Day 1: Cloud Foundations and Core Services

Part I: Cloud Architecture Foundations

  1. Core cloud architecture principles and non-functional requirements, including availability, scalability, security, and performance
  2. Cloud adoption models and associated trade-offs across IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS, with a focus on shared responsibility models
  3. Key Azure architecture components, such as Regions, Resource Groups, and individual Resources
  4. Mission-critical architecture design and defining disaster recovery targets, specifically RTO and RPO

Part II: Core Cloud Services

  1. Storage and data foundations, exploring Azure Table Storage and Azure Cosmos DB
  2. Compute and container platforms, covering Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) and Azure Container Registry (ACR)
  3. Relational data management and messaging systems, focusing on Azure SQL Database and Azure Service Bus
  4. Practical exercises for each service, involving configuration, deployment, and evaluation against criteria for availability, performance, security, and pricing
  5. Implementing Infrastructure as Code using Bicep to ensure reproducible environments

Day 2: Architecture Leadership and Clean Architecture

Part III: The Architect

  1. Defining software architecture and understanding various architectural viewpoints
  2. The roles, responsibilities, and decision-ownership of the software architect
  3. Architectural specification and effective communication with both technical and business stakeholders
  4. A practical pathway to becoming an effective and influential software architect

Part IV: Managing Dependencies in Monoliths

  1. Clean Architecture principles, emphasizing separation of concerns, dependency direction, and long-term maintainability
  2. Selecting appropriate cloud services for monolithic modernization, analyzing the advantages and disadvantages
  3. Hands-on lab: developing and deploying a Clean Architecture solution in Azure using .NET

Day 3: Domain Driven and Distributed Architectures

Part V: DDD, CQRS, and Event Sourcing

  1. Domain-Driven Design fundamentals, including domain boundaries, ubiquitous language, and model-driven design
  2. CQRS and Event Sourcing concepts tailored for complex and evolving business domains
  3. Architectural patterns commonly used in DDD-based cloud solutions
  4. Hands-on lab: applying Event Sourcing as a requirements-driven design technique, moving from initial requirements to events, aggregates, and event flows

Part VI: Microservices

  1. Microservices architecture principles and the trade-offs inherent in distributed systems
  2. Choosing cloud services for microservices-based solutions, evaluating their strengths and limitations
  3. Synchronous and asynchronous communication styles in microservices, incorporating reliability patterns such as circuit breakers and resiliency strategies
  4. Ensuring testability in microservices and CI/CD pipelines through contract testing, integration testing boundaries, automated quality gates, and deployment confidence
  5. Hands-on lab: building and deploying microservices in Azure using .NET

Requirements

  • Proficiency in an advanced programming language (such as C# or Java)
  • A foundational understanding of the architectural styles covered in the course
  • Basic experience with cloud-based services
  • A minimum of five years of software engineering experience
