Course Outline

Understanding Stress and Its Origins

  • Exploration of the two types of stress: distress (which causes negative feelings and physical/mental dis-ease) and eustress (which drives positive feelings and motivation).
  • Discussion on the specific stressors encountered by participants.
  • Clarification of the difference between burnout and stress, noting that stress is often a more enduring and pervasive condition.

The Impact of Stress on the Body and Mind

  • An examination of the biochemical processes involved and natural energy peaks throughout the day.
  • Understanding how specific chemicals trigger 'fight or flight' responses, promote short-term thinking (which hinders problem-solving in complex situations), and inhibit the parasympathetic nervous system (essential for health functions like digestion and memory storage).

Stress Reduction, Routines, and Strategic Planning

  • Review of evidence-based benefits from mindfulness (awareness of feelings, thoughts, and attention), physical exercise, morning routines, meditation, belief remapping, and energy techniques such as tapping or visualization.
  • Development of a feasible morning routine plan, which can be expanded over time or utilized as an immediate 'emergency' strategy during episodes of overwhelm, panic, or acute stress.

Reflection and Action Planning

  • Participants reflect on their personal goals and expected outcomes from the course, revisiting the objectives set at the beginning.
  • Identification of one to three actionable changes to implement for better work-life balance, along with strategies to maintain focus if distractions occur.

Requirements

  • A willingness to openly share personal feelings within a group setting.

Audience

  • Professionals operating in fast-paced, dynamic environments characterized by competing priorities, ambiguous goals, and shifting targets.
  • Individuals who frequently experience symptoms such as headaches, stomach discomfort, anxiety, fear, imposter syndrome, lethargy, overwhelm, or relationship strains.
